Our Lady Queen of Martyrs — Mityana, Uganda
We are a community of Discalced Carmelite Nuns living a cloistered, contemplative life in the heart of the Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese. Founded in 1967 by nuns from the Monastery of Welden in Germany, our monastery sits on holy ground where three of the Uganda Martyrs gave their lives for the faith.
Hidden with Christ in God, we devote our lives to prayer for the Church, the sanctification of priests, and the salvation of souls. Welcome to our Carmel!
Our day revolves around the Divine Office, mental prayer, and the Holy Mass. Two hours of silent contemplation anchor us in God's presence, following the path of St. Teresa and St. John of the Cross.
Within the cloister, we live as a family bound by charity. Our enclosure is not a wall but a gift of total availability to God, embracing the whole world through intercessory prayer.
Manual work — host baking, gardening, sewing — becomes prayer when offered to God. Silence creates the interior space where God speaks and the soul listens and grows in love.

We'd love to hear from you. Whether you wish to request prayers, plan a retreat, or learn more about our contemplative life.
